New transport optimisation software doubles fleet capacity and significantly reduces CO2 production

21 November 2011

Transit.HMS transport optimisation software developed in Australia by HMS has shown a doubling of the capacity of community transport fleets which is producing significant reductions in CO2 output in the course of running the fleet.

SURREY HILLS, AUSTRALIA, November 21, 2011. – HMS, a leader in health management software, today introduced Transit.hms, a cutting edge fleet optimisation software solution aimed at the community transport sector.

Community Transport organisations (CTO’s) often find it difficult to manage the complex mapping procedures needed to ensure the optimal routing of vehicles within their fleet. The varieties of permutations and combinations of vehicles and the needs of clients as well as the needs of drivers have been difficult to manage. No one software system has been able to provide a solution to the complexities of running CTOs especially in regards to optimising routes which can change throughout the day. Transit.hms is now that solution. Transit.hms replicates the normal workflows of community transport organisations therefore allowing an easy introduction of CTO staff to the operation of the software. With a simple press of a button Transit deciphers all the possible combinations of trips, drivers and clients to provide the most cost and time effective route for each vehicle.

“A number of systems have attempted to solve the problem of community transport routing but none have been successful to-date,” said George Guorgi, CEO of HMS. “Transit.hms appears to have struck a chord with CTOs as we have seen incredible interest from these organisations from around Australia”. “Interestingly some people have been quite sceptical that we could achieve what we have said we can, it is only when they stand in front of a machine with all the jobs specified for a week and we can show that within a few minutes we can optimise all of the jobs. Any inconsistencies and problems are picked up and then it is simply a job of the administrative personnel to manually deal with these. Typically these problems are a very small number of the optimised trips. We find that as users increase their experience with the software that the data they are entering becomes “cleaner”. If all data is accurate, for example addresses, then the number of manual corrections are reduced dramatically.”

Transit.hms is in fact just a small part of a software suite designed for the health care industry. “So many of the community transport organisations have a core group of clients that are being transported for medical reasons,” says Guorgi. “This is where we shine. We have such a wealth of experience dealing with complex Australian funding sources, and we will be announcing soon some very sophisticated software that links Transit with the health care sector. It is an exciting time for us and we are really enjoying showing a range of products that we have been developing for some time”. Transit.hms has taken the underlying philosophy of its medical software to develop a platform that allows for future growth and genuine flexibility so that a tailored package can be designed for virtually any client.

STAC Queensland Partnership with HMS

19 November 2011

HMS is to become one of the largest suppliers of Community Transport software in Queensland Australia after it announced its partnership with Suncoast Community Transport and Care (STAC) at a recent meeting in North Lakes Queensland (18th November 2011).

CEO of STAC, Feda Adra spoke at the launch of the partnership. ” A crucial component is investing in appropriate software systems, that is, software that provides a complete transport and client management system that records a large amount of data and provides for a very wide range of data analysis option”, ” Our agency was providing 60,000 transport trips per year and we were able to increase our trips to over 100,000 per year. This was achieved with one additional part time admin and three full time drivers. We have only purchased two additional vehicles to deliver these services.”

HMS is now working with a number of community organisations throughout Queensland and NSW with a view to creating a standardised community transport network through the two states.

George Guorgi, CEO of HMS said. “We have created, through the development of Transit.HMS a protocol and method for communicating community transport service requests which will allow many service providers to link into our product without significant financial outlay. We expect that this communication method will be adopted as an Australian standard for these groups. It is a quick, robust and secure technology much like what we have seen developed in the banking ATM and EFTPOS sector. It will allow multiple organisations to talk to each other through this standard to ensure highly efficient sharing of services. This is the ultimate in cost-effective business practice which will save the sector millions of dollars every year.”
